WRITER:
Merridith Allen hails from the most diverse place on the planet; Queens, NYC. She is currently based in Los Angeles. As an award-winning playwright, screenwriter and TV Writer, Merridith is committed to telling compelling stories by blending the best of these mediums. Her work primarily focuses on women's stories, stories about alternative family and love structures, and about people whose perspectives we don't often see on screen or stage.
You'll find excerpts from Merridith's plays in over ten anthologies through Smith&Kraus publishers, and Applause Cinema and Theater Books. NYC productions have been performed at Urban Stages, Manhattan Repertory Theater, and The Bank Street Theater, among others. Nationally and abroad, her plays have been read and produced at venues in New Orleans, San Miguel de Allende, Edinburgh, and Provincetown. She is a member of the Dramatist's Guild.
Merridith has been a finalist in such prestigious programs as the WGAE Made in a NY Writer's Room Fellowship, SeriesFest, and Screencraft, and has won awards from The Fresh Voices Screenwriting Competition, the San Miguel de Allende Writer's Conference and the Sewanee Writer's Conference. Merridith served as a playwriting fellow in 2010 at VCCA France, in 2013 at Sewanee, and in 2016 in San Miguel de Allende.
SCRIPT CONSULTANT/TEACHING WORK
Aside from writing her own projects, Merridith loves helping writers develop their work and careers. From inner-city middle school students in Manhattan to adult education in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Merridith has taught just about every age group, at just about any stage in the writing game.
For the past 5 years, Merridith served as a script consultant at a school in NYC, developing plays, screenplays, and tv projects for the big screen, small screen, and digital media. She is currently a freelance writing coach/script consultant in Los Angeles, and is currently accepting applications for clients.
